Political Science is the study of the rise and evolution of governments and politics in the world. Specifically, political science examines the origins and contemporary institutions of governments, the evolution and state of political parties, campaigns, elections, citizen rights and responsibilities, law-making and law enforcing, civil rights and liberties, and our court system.
Careers
Political science majors are a vital resource in the workings of our participatory democracy. A study of political science can lead to careers in government service , politics, law, management, law enforcement, and education. The analytical skills honed in the study of political science are greatly valued as an excellent prerequisite in the above career fields.
Transfer Guide
Political Science majors are offered at the major Oregon schools - U of O, OSU, SOU, EOS, and PSU. Political Science is also offered at major schools across the country.
Following the standard transfer program requirements will gain entry for qualified students into the Oregon university system as well as into universities across the country and world. Appropriate early course for political science majors are:
- Science - Geology or Biology
- Math - 105 or 111
- Social Sciences - (besides Political Science courses) History, Anthropology, Sociology, Economics, and Psychology
- Foreign language - Two years of a foreign language is required for a B.A. degree in most universities, and is a good idea in general for broadening our perspective and strengthening one's job entry chances in the field.
