Violinist Alex DePue to Perform
World-renowned violinist Alex DePue to perform with Umpqua Chamber Orchestra and Umpqua Singers.
ROSEBURG, Oregon – The Umpqua Symphony Association and Umpqua Community College Fine and Performing Arts Department present violinist Alex DePue in concert with the Umpqua Chamber Orchestra and Umpqua Singers on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at 7:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Roseburg.
Under the direction of Dr. Jason Heald, the UCO and Umpqua Singers will be joined by the internationally-acclaimed Grammy-nominated violinist in a program ranging from classical to jazz to bluegrass. Among the featured works will be Johann Sebastian Bach’s Violin Concerto in A Minor, and works by Bill Monroe, Michael Jackson, and Yes.
DePue began taking classical violin lessons at age five. He won his first major competition at age 10, and later (age 14) won a competition that entitled him to perform at Carnegie Hall as Concertmaster for the National Guild Youth Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Joseph Silverstein. He has continued to win competitions and appear as a guest soloist with orchestras and at festivals worldwide.
DePue is the second of three Grammy-nominated or winning artists with whom Dr. Heald’s students have had an opportunity to work this year. UCC is fortunate to have an outstanding music program that not only enriches our community, but gives student musicians some amazing opportunities.
This is an all-ages event. Admission is $20 per person, $40 per family, $15 for seniors, and $5 for students. For more information, call (541) 440-4691.
