Students completing the drafting pathways certificate are most likely to be employed as a drafting technician. It is important to recognize that this certificate can complement or provide pathways to other career opportunities, such as engineering technicians, and the technical training provided may increase promotional opportunities for people already employed in the field.
Average beginning salaries for drafting technicians are in the range of $13.50 to $18.50 per hour depending on experience and other factors. Job demand for trained workers in this field is related to the amount of construction and development that is occurring in the area. People interested in this career field should be prepared to consider relocating to gain initial experience, as this is a high-demand position in areas with significant development.
There are multiple career pathways for people with drafting backgrounds. Examples of some related careers are available on the Oregon Labor Market Information Website for Surveying Technicians and Civil Engineering Technicians.
