Michala Carpine is an 18 year old graduate from Sutherlin High School. Being a caregiver, Michala's biggest passion is to help others. She loves sports, anything outdoors, but especially her job. Michala is getting her degree in Pre-Nursing, and she eventually wants to move on and become a registered nurse. Michala's main projects for Communications and Marketing have been writing stories and taking pictures for UCC's social media platforms. Michala's stories include: "Consider Strategies for Success Course", "Overcoming Fear to Answer the Call to Care", and "Have No Fear, Academic Coaches are Here".
Hailee Holder is a Sutherlin High School graduate of 2018. In high school, Hailee enjoyed working with children. This is where she learned that this is one of her greatest passions. Hailee’s biggest goal in life is to become a registered nurse and work in the NICU. She is currently working on her Associates Degree in Pre-Nursing degree and will move on to get her Registered Nursing Degree. Hailee has gained the title of “Project Coordinator” for the Communications and Marketing Department. This means she will be organizing all of the Scholar’s projects and assisting Tiffany in whatever she may need Hailee for. Hailee contributed to the story "Have No Fear, Academic Coaches are Here". In her free time, you will probably find Hailee with her friends or helping in Sunday School at her church.
Hannah Horvath graduated from Sutherlin High School in 2018. Her great passion is to help people, so she plans on graduating with her degree in Human Services. She wants to eventually become a social worker to help troubled kids find their forever home. Her interests include softball, music, theater and going on adventures with her friends and family. Hannah’s main project in the Communications and Marketing Department is writing stories about people who are past graduates with degrees in Human Services that she sat down and interviewed. Hannah's stories include: "Adapting to Change One Degree at a Time" and "Working Through Addiction to Help Others".
Bryce Knott is an 18 year old graduate from Roseburg High School. Bryce was born and raised in Roseburg and is working toward his AAOT in computer science in order to transfer to a 4 year university in Washington. In his free time, Bryce likes long walks in the forest, riding mountain bikes and playing way too much video games. In addition to this, Bryce is usually always busy with programming or developing small little games. Eventually he wants to have enough skill to be able to participate in short game making conventions around the state on weekends. Bryce’s goal is to become a game designer or programmer for either Insomniac, Obsidian, or Firaxis. He created a SnapChat filter for the College's first-ever CTE Signing Day. His next big project is to create a SnapChat filter for 2019's commencement ceremony.
McKenzie O’Sullivan graduated from Canyonville Christian Academy in 2018. McKenzie loves being outdoors, going hiking, fishing, hunting, camping, and you will normally find her with her family and friends. McKenzie is going for a major in Nursing as she would like to become a Pediatric Nurse. McKenzie’s projects have been writing articles on Sean Breslin, Mick Davis, and now she is working on an article for some of the Nurses that just graduated this past year. McKenzie's articles include: "Rainbows and Unicorns: Chemistry's Perfect Solution" and "Supporting Student Success by the Book"
Suzanne Pence is 19 years old. She is pursuing an AAOT at UCC and will be transferring to OSU in the fall to major in Biology. She graduated from Roseburg High School in June of 2018 and wishes to become a Physicians Assistant in a Neonatal department. In the Office of Communications and Marketing, she collaborates in developing online ads and makes suggestions on search engine optimization for the College website.
George Turner is a 19 year old graduate from Geneva Academy in Roseburg Oregon. He graduated in 2018 with his honors diploma. George is interested in pursuing a career in science and technology. He has also thought about a career in medicine at some point but plans on spending some time in the military first. George volunteers in Communications and Marketing as well as the Admissions Office. George likes traveling, being outdoors, driving on road trips, and rock climbing. On top of all his studying as a UCC Scholar, George is on both the Cross Country and Track and Field Teams here at UCC.
Josh is an 18 year old graduate from Days Creek High School where he played football and basketball. Around campus, Josh is known as “Yargus” or less formally as “Sasquatch.” Josh is currently pursuing an AAOT until he transfers to Southern Oregon University to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism. Josh’s interests include sports, comic book movies (“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” being his favorite), and the band Weezer. While serving two hours weekly in the Communications and Marketing department, Josh hosts “Riverhawk Squawk Talk,” UCC’s first and only podcast.
