UCC athletics kicks off a new season with a newly painted and refinished sports court.
ROSEBURG, Oregon – As bleachers clatter and sneakers squeak, this year’s sports season at Umpqua Community College (UCC) brings a new look to the Riverhawks’ home nest. When UCC student athletes take to the court, and spectators take to the stands, they will be greeted by a newly painted and refinished sports court.
At cost of just over $20,000, the 10 day project took place in July and was paid for with a combination of facilities funding and athletics revenue. UCC Athletics Director, Craig Jackson, estimates it has been 12 years since UCC’s court was refinished.
The new look includes an overall lighter finish to the floor’s wood with heavier contrasting lines throughout the court. The area between the key and three-point line has a lighter, almost white finish. New ‘Umpqua’ and ‘Riverhawks’ word logos span across the north and south baselines respectively. At center court, the UCC Riverhawk gazes out to all who are in attendance.
But more than just the floor is getting an upgrade this year. High overhead, new and brighter lighting has been installed as well. The new lighting provides a wider, clearer field of view for spectators from anywhere in the arena. It is also optimized for a better livestream view for fans watching games at home on the Riverhawk’s YouTube Channel, or other online providers.
Experience the new look for yourself and be there as the 2018-2019 sports season kicks off. The first home contest to use the upgraded court will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 18, featuring the UCC Volleyball team in their first home game of the year.
