Vice President for Instruction

General Description
The Vice President serves as Chief Academic Officer responsible for academic leadership and vision for instructional programs. This includes working closely with instructional team members to achieve the day-to-day administration of college policies, procedures, and physical and fiscal resources. Reporting to this position are the following: Dean of Career & Technical Education (CTE), Dean of Arts & Sciences, Director of Small Business Development Center/Workforce Development, Director of Adult Basic Skills Development, Director of Curriculum Support, and Confidential Assistant.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Overseeing development of quality programs through ongoing program reviews and student learning outcomes assessment.
  • Modeling leadership for instructional area of college to ensure quality performance, professional development, and collaborative processes.
  • Working with instructional leadership team to develop annual budgets, oversee expenditures, and monitor fiscal processes.
  • Providing leadership for accreditation, ensuring that all campus stakeholders are actively involved in the accreditation process.
  • Providing leadership, direction, motivation and supervision of direct reports.
  • Appraising performance, providing performance feedback, taking appropriate corrective actions and overseeing staff development.
  • Working closely with the instructional team and appropriate campus stakeholders to develop instructional master plans for the purposes of strategic and coordinated vision and implementation of change.
  • Supporting instructional departments entrepreneurial and/or resource development efforts.
  • Supporting the coordination and facilitation of the articulation of college instructional programs and services with secondary and post-secondary institutions.
  • Working with community leaders and the instructional leadership team to ensure instructional program development that is aligned with community and workforce needs.
  • Ensuring that instruction, student development, and administrative functions are seamless, complementary service areas; this includes the development and maintenance of governance and communication systems that unite, rather than divide, these important services.
  • Providing leadership in the development of effective and innovative strategies, methodologies, and practices that promote diversity in the delivery of an instructional program, and ensure an accessible educational environment and that monitors and enhances student progress.
  • Serving as a member of the Executive Council.
  • Working closely with the President and other college staff and advocating for the instructional needs of the institution with the Oregon Department of Community College and Workforce Development (CCWD) and various statewide committees.
  • Performing special assignments and duties within the scope and responsibility of the position as assigned by the President.

  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

    This position involves primarily an indoor office working environment; may require employee to bend, lift, stoop, crouch and perform similar functions while performing essential and other job functions; requires being able to perform these movements without a significant risk of injury, with or without accommodations, or to otherwise demonstrate or explain how performance of these functions is possible.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree in education, public administration, or a related field.
  • Five years of progressively responsible roles in administration of instructional programs at post-secondary institutions.
  • Three years of teaching or related instructional experience.
  • Computer skills using various software applications and with multimedia systems.

    Successful candidates will demonstrate the following:
  • A strong commitment to a servant leadership model.
  • Experience working with and supporting self-directed teams.
  • Experience with the successful development, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive community college instructional programs including either direct or indirect knowledge of career and technical, lower-division transfer, developmental and general education, community education, and workforce development programs.
  • Ability to promote the use of technology in the teaching and learning environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and facilitation skills.
  • Consensus building and inclusive approaches to communication and leadership.
  • An understanding of community college instructional issues and larger institutional challenges and opportunities, including the role of a comprehensive community college.
  • Planning, organization, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Skills to successfully work in an environment that supports change.

    SALARY: $69,774 - $103,265 per year, Full-Time, 2011-12 Administrative Salary Schedule, Level V.

    FRINGE BENEFITS: Family health, dental, vision insurance, employee term life, and disability insurance provided at a minimal employee contribution. Participation in PERS after 6 months, with a 6% employee contribution.
