Public debate set for May 30

UCC debaters will take on Oregon's primary election system.

UCC’s Debate Club will host an open community debate at noon Friday, May 30, in the Whipple Fine Arts building on UCC’s main campus, 1140 Umpqua College Road.

Students will formally debate whether Oregon should change to an open primary election. The debate will last 50 minutes. It is open to everyone.

Students taking the affirmative position on the issue will be Kalee Paxton and Tyler Cheek. Taking the negative will be Athena Todd and Suzie Day. The facilitator will be Aaron Anderson, the UCC Debate Club president.
