Adult High School Diploma/GED

You may have heard of the Woolley Center.

Hundreds of students have earned an Adult High School Diploma (AHSD) or General Education Development (GED) certificate since the Woolley Center opened in 1984. Graduates have gone on to college or entered the workforce.

Announcing a New Program
Over 80% of jobs earning $45,000 in Oregon require some post-secondary training: either a college degree or professional/technical certification. Yet many high school students graduate or drop out without a clear idea of what they will or can do next. The new College and Career Preparation program addresses this dilemma.

The Goal
This program familiarizes students with high-growth occupations as well as local training opportunities. The goal is to kindle each student’s natural interests and assist them make plans for the future, whether they include college, vocational training, or something else altogether.

Real Exposure to the Workplace
To ensure that students learn up-to-date, real world information, they will hear business professionals, have job shadows and field trips, and complete hands-on projects and work samples. These experiences will become part of each student’s portfolio, which in turn can be used for college admissions and job interviews.

Small Classes, Individual Attention
Students choose either a GED or Adult High School Diploma path. Class sizes are small, with an average of 15 students. This allows instructors to work with students individually. Free tutoring is available, and a student services coordinator is on staff.

Adult High School Diploma path:
Students can earn 4 or more credits each term, a faster pace than traditional high schools. A student taking every opportunity can move from being credit deficient to graduating early – with a career plan!

GED path:
GED work alone does not adequately prepare a student for college or the workplace. The credential is valuable, but there is more to learn. The GED student at the Woolley Center is required to do an educational plan kept in his/her portfolio. This educational plan helps the student to think about what their next step may be after completing their GED, whether they want to further their education or join the workforce.
