General Education Development (GED)
The GED is a certificate of high school equivalency awarded by the Oregon Department of Education. In order to obtain the GED certificate, a series of five tests must be passed; these tests cover reading, writing, science, social studies and math.
The Adult Basic Skills Development program offers GED classes in a several locations throughout Douglas County to help individuals prepare to pass the GED tests, so that a GED certificate can be awarded. There are three different levels of classes offered: GED, Pre-GED, and ABE (Adult Basic Education). The level of classes a student is placed into depends on their reading level, which is determined by a reading test. Having three levels of classes allows each student to have the type of instruction they need to best prepare to take and pass the GED tests. GED predictor tests are also available, which are tests students take to see how well prepared they are for the GED tests; they cost $5.00. If you would like to schedule a GED predictor test, please call (541) 440-4603.
