Fitness Technician
One Year Certificate Program at UCC
This certificate program is designed to prepare students as fitness professionals for various careers in the fitness industry.
Employment Trends:
According to the OLMIS – “Employment of fitness workers is expected to increase much faster than the average for all occupations through 2014. An increasing number of people spend more time and money on fitness, and more businesses are recognizing the benefits of health and fitness programs and other services such as wellness programs for their employees. Aging baby boomers are concerned with staying healthy, physically fit, and independent. They have become the largest demographic group of health club members. The reduction of physical education programs in schools, combined with parents’ growing concern about childhood obesity, has resulted in rapid increases in children’s health club membership. As health clubs strive to provide more personalized services to keep their members motivated, they will continue to offer personal training and a wide variety of group exercise classes.”
Employment Outlook:
“The employment outlook for Fitness Trainers is expected to grow much faster than the statewide average. Total job openings are projected to be somewhat higher than the statewide average. Reasonable employment opportunities exist for trained workers.”
“Starting pay ranges for Temp. Fitness Instructors at $12.00/hr. up to Fitness Trainers at $34.00/hr. The average annual salary for Oregon statewide is: $35,291. This occupation could also lead into future degree options in Athletic Training, where the outlook is also good, and the average annual salary for Athletic Trainers is: $43,773.”
