Director of Accounting and Finance

Responsible to: Vice President for Administrative Services

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Reviewing existing fiscal policies and procedures, recommends changes to and ensure compliance with such policies and procedures.
  • Developing and implementing college-wide procedures to effect fiscal policies.
  • Maintenance of General Ledger for the College and Umpqua College Foundation.
  • Initiating and maintaining internal control systems that protect staff, the college, and the foundation from loss of funds.
  • Maintain other journals consistent with generally accepted accounting practices.
  • Reconciling bank statements provide leadership in preparation of cash receipts and disbursements.
  • Supervising the in-house preparation of college and foundation financial statements and coordinate staff support for the annual audit with independent auditors.
  • Preparing the final closing and opening of accounting records, journals and ledgers at the completion and beginning of each fiscal year.
  • Preparing preliminary spreadsheets and financial statements required in preparation for the annual audit.
  • Maintaining knowledge of interpretations of a variety of federal, state, and agency laws and regulations necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
  • Coordinating, supervising, and administering operations in the Business Office which has direct responsibility for the college's accounting functions including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, debt collection cash receipts, banking investments, financial aid check disbursement, general accounting, grants and contract accounting, student loan collection, audit and financial reporting.
  • Supervising the preparation of various federal, state, and local reports required by grants and contracts.
  • Preparing and controlling Business Office budget, and provide assistance to the college Budget Office.

  • QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree and three years accounting experience required.
  • Public accounting experience.
  • Governmental auditing experience.
  • MBA and/or CPA preferred.
  • Knowledge of community college accounting procedures and fiscal procedures; principles of data processing.
  • Ability to learn and interpret laws, rules, and regulations affecting college accounting and fiscal operations; and to prepare clear, concise, and accurate reports.

  • SALARY: $51,071 - $72,523 per year, Full-Time, 2010-11 Administrative Salary Schedule, Level II.

    FRINGE BENEFITS: Family health, dental, vision insurance, employee term life, and disability insurance provided at a minimal employee contribution. Participation in PERS after 6 months, with a 6% employee contribution.
