Business Instructor

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

This position is primarily responsible for teaching both college transfer and professional technical business courses. The assignment may include oversight of the Entrepreneurial and Supervision Certificates, courses in Accounting and Finance, and may include other courses such as business law, computer applications, or other general business courses. Evening and online classes may be part of the assignment. Other responsibilities may include curriculum development, managing instructional projects such as the development of a student-run business incubator, community partnerships, committee assignments, serving as an active member of various departmental advisory committees, being actively involved in recruiting and placing graduates of business programs, and other duties as outlined in the staff handbook.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Creating a positive, student-centered learning environment;
  • Managing and monitoring program assignment responsibilities, including program learning outcomes, articulation agreements, support resources, and the like.
  • Conducting classes during the time and manner specified on the schedule;
  • Teaching the course learning outcomes as described in the approved course outline;
  • Maintaining a schedule of weekly office hours to assist students;
  • Submitting institutional reports as requested, including: class rosters, grade reports, grade books, text book requests, inventories, final examinations;
  • Assisting in committee assignments and other related activities which contribute to the improvement and proper operation of the college;
  • Carrying out college policies in all aspects that relate to the position;
  • Representing the College when participating in school-related functions;
  • Other instructional assignments and duties as assigned.

    TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Hearing voice conversation, sitting, standing and walking occurs in this job daily;
  • Bending, gripping hands & fingers, kneeling, lifting/carrying 0-34 pounds, reaching, standing long periods and stooping occurs regularly but not daily;
  • Teaching evening and online course assignments due to the nature of the programs.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Required:
  • Master's degree in Business Administration or a closely related field from an accredited college or university;
  • Demonstrable ability to interact and communicate effectively; ability to work in teams;
  • Proficiency in current business and accounting software applications
  • Ability to organize and complete several tasks at once; ability to meet deadlines
  • Preferred:
  • Educational depth in accounting or finance;
  • Classroom teaching experience at the community college level;
  • Online instruction experience;
  • Experience in curriculum development and/or revision.

    SALARY: $42,378 - $49,316 DOQ, Full-Time 2012-13 Faculty Salary Schedule, Steps 1 min. – 6 max.


    FRINGE BENEFITS: Family health, dental, vision insurance, employee term life, and disability insurance provided at a minimal employee contribution. Participation in PERS after 6 months, with a 6% employee contribution.
