Part-Time Machine Shop Instructor

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This position is primarily responsible for instruction in basic and advanced level of Machining Operations with a specialization in the following areas:
Introduces the student to semi-precision and precision measuring and layout procedures, the use of bench tools, saws, drill presses and their accessories
The student learns the operation of the turning lathe including setup, turning tapers, threads (National, Acme, and Square) and forms. Use of accessories is stressed such as chucks, steady rests, follower rests and grinders
The student learns the operation of horizontal and vertical milling machines, their setup, basic operation and use of accessories such as digital readouts, rotary table, dividing head, gear and cam milling and the use of indicators, wigglers and edge finders
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Cover the usual course content as described in the approved course outline, and provide sufficient exposure to the material so that students will satisfactorily proceed to the next course in sequence and/or courses in the program.
Follow and enforce best safety practices and rules.
Appropriately evaluate and maintain records of student progress.
Provide feedback for students regarding their performance.
Meet each assigned class with punctuality and enthusiasm.
Implement class activities that will promote maximum learning.
Conducts class during the time and in the room provided in the regular college schedule; the division chair should approve any deviation from this.
Submit reports as requested including class rosters, grade reports, grade books, final examinations.
Remain current on developments in machining operations and processes required by industry.
Carry out college policies in all aspects that relate to the position.
Conduct self as a representative of the college staff when participating in school related functions.
Is directly responsible to the Apprenticeship Program Coordinator
Leave the classroom in proper order at the conclusion of class activities.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Bending, gripping hands and fingers, hearing voice conversation, lifting/carrying up to 35 pounds, operating passenger vehicles, pulling, pushing, sitting, standing, walking, exposure to chemicals, working with electricity, working with solvents, grease, oils, inks occurs in the job daily.
Color identification, hammering, kneeling, reaching, stooping, exposure to fluids, noisy work area, working with rotating machinery as required for instruction
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
Journey level machinist with more than 4-years experience
Experienced using CNC, CAD CAM, or similar
Completion of 4-years machinist apprenticeship training preferred
Teaching experience preferred.
SALARY: $492 per credit hour, Part-Time 2011-12 Faculty Salary Schedule, Base
