Theater Arts (Transfer)

Want to be an actor, actress or theater producer? Are you a drama queen? Learn all the professional and technical skills whether on the front side of the camera or the backside of the curtain.

The Theater program at Umpqua Community College offers both technical and dramatic disciplines that enhance the dreams of the stage. The 182-seat theater is an operational classroom for all dramatic discipline (acting classes), as well as lighting, stage make-up, and set design (technical discipline). Students learn basic communication and performance skills that produce quality plays and boost self-confidence. In addition to classes, students have the opportunity to participate in theater productions quarterly, including a major summer musical.

This program prepares graduates for careers as theater, technical, and casting directors, stage managers, producers, educators, critics, dancers, comedians, agents, publicist, newscasters, sportscasters, "talk show host", stage technicians, carpenters, scene designers, costume designers, animators, film editors, video engineers, sound engineers, or script writers.

Students enrolled in the UCC Theater program can expect to take classes in the following subject areas:

  • Introduction to theater
  • Introduction to stage lighting, stage makeup, and scene design
  • Acting and Intermediate Acting
  • American Film History
  • Shakespeare
  • Transfer opportunities in general studies
