Journalism (Transfer)

Associate of Arts Degree Program (Transfer)

The Communication Studies department of journalism at UCC offers award winning degree preparation programs with exciting hands-on media training for students interested in journalism or other communication career options. Our classes are not just for reporters, however! Courses such as Writing for the Media, Introduction to Mass Communication, Journalism Production, Photography, Public Relations, and Business Communication prepare students to become the vital communicators and advocates needed today in service-providing industries such as advertising, health care, social assistance, education, and government. In fact, the National Association of Colleges and Employers recently listed "communications skills (verbal and written)" as the number one skill sought by the nearly 2,000 employers that they surveyed.

At UCC, our students have the unique opportunity to work one-on-one with qualified instructors in hands-on learning environments that promote advanced development of oral and written communication skills. By working closely together on media projects, our students also develop important technical skills in industry software and frequently create long-lasting friendships while learning vital production processes.

Students can transfer from UCC to many different Oregon universities to continue their journalism and communication-related studies in a variety of majors:

  • Journalism (UO, NCC, Corban College)
  • Human Communications (SOU)
  • Communications Studies (OIT)
  • Communication Arts (George Fox)

  • Organizational Communication: Public Relations or Human Resources (UOP)

*Several of these colleges offer further specialization within the field of Communications. For a current list of majors offered by Oregon universities, please see each individual university’s website.
