Art & Art Education (Transfer)

Associate in Arts Degree Program (Transfer)

Do you see your world in color or shades of gray? However you look at life, the Fine Arts Department at Umpqua Community College has something for you. We provide a full palette of art offerings for those seeking a career in art, for those wanting to gain foundation knowledge on the road to a BA or BFA, and for those who are looking for a creative outlet and a life enhanced by art.

Our facilities include a large studio filled with north light, a full chemical darkroom, a ceramics and sculpture studio, a small bronze foundry, and an 18-station computer and design lab. The Art Gallery supports the mission of the Fine Arts department with a diverse exhibit program, highlighting emerging regional and national artists, and also featuring an annual student art showcase.

The UCC Fine Arts Department offers terminal and transfer programs in Art, Art Education, Art History, Pre-Architecture, and Graphic Design. Our program of study is approved for transfer to the University of Oregon, Oregon State University, Southern Oregon University, and other public and private programs in liberal arts and education. Working closely with dedicated faculty, you can create a program that will prepare you for the next step in your creative life. For non-Art majors who are seeking a creative outlet, all Art classes will fulfill Humanities requirements in other majors. We welcome non-degree seeking students as well!

Fine Art Majors are encouraged to first take foundation courses in Design, Drawing, and Art History before continuing on into a more focused area of study. Fine Art students can expect to take courses in the following subject areas:

  • Art History (Ancient, Medieval, Renaissance through Modern)*
  • Basic Design (Two-Dimensional, Color Theory, Three-Dimensional)*
  • Digital Arts (Computer Graphic Design, Illustration, and Animation)
