Full-Time SBDC/Workforce Training Workshop Coordinator

General Description:

Works as part of a highly integrated team to promote a variety of seminars, workshops and services targeted at small businesses and area employers. Works independently with limited supervision in assessing small business and local employer training needs, managing courses for cost recovery, reviewing course proposals, recruiting instructors, and evaluating for quality and student/customer satisfaction. Regular contact with the general public, small business owners, employers and community partners. Funding for this position is partially self-support, which is contingent upon generating sufficient revenue through cost recovery.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Essential Functions:
  • Selects, develops, prices, and promotes new and repeat non-credit small business, ED2GO and workforce related courses, seminars and training events.
  • Works closely with Community Education and other departments to avoid duplicative efforts and explore opportunities for ongoing joint promotion and collaboration
  • Develops and delivers SBDC and Workforce courses on a cost recovery basis to generate gross income of 1.5 to 3 times the coordinator position salary annually.
  • May assist in coordinating some contracted training initiatives
  • Utilizes established income generation methods to price, determine operating margin, and set minimums for each course, event, or training. Tracks the enrollment, revenue, and expenses for all classes.
  • Assists in recruiting, reviewing course proposals, interviewing, evaluating and recommending non credit instructors to teach SBDC and Workforce Training offerings.
  • Keeps accurate records of course materials required for the College, CCWD and the OSBDCN.
  • Coordinates registration activities for classes and also enters relevant student data for all SBDC courses into Center IC
  • Oversees the development of course, event or training syllabi, outlines and instructional materials.
  • Evaluates courses for quality, teacher effectiveness, and student satisfaction.
  • Delivers quality customer service to small business owners, employers and students.
  • Schedules facilities and arranges for equipment and instructional materials needed for instruction. This may include transporting equipment and materials to off-campus sites.
  • Pursues appropriate professional development opportunities to acquire or improve job skills and increase efficiency and department success.
  • Markets UCC SBDC/Workforce programs and services to small business and major employers and at business and workforce related community functions, events and fairs.
  • Assists with marketing by encouraging repeat business, developing and distributing promotional materials, creating marketing plans, and utilizing social media.
  • Attends staff meetings and works as a collaborative team member.
  • Prepares reports as requested.
  • Maintains student and client confidentiality at all times as per UCC and OSBDCN policy.
  • Follows all UCC and OSBDCN policies, procedures and safety regulations.

    Incidental Functions:
  • Occasionally covers the general duties of the SBDC office in the absence of the office staff.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to assess, plan, organize, price, schedule, market, monitor and evaluate a variety of non-credit classes, trainings and events.
  • Ability to work with small businesses owners, major employers and agency representatives to identify educational courses, conferences, and trainings.
  • Ability to contribute as a team member, to support other coordinating staff and work toward Department and College goals.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relations with other employees, students, instructors and the community.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and positively.
  • Ability to travel within UCC’s Service District.
  • Ability to keep accurate records and complete necessary college forms and paperwork.
  • Skills in MS Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Ability to utilize registration, client/student management and scheduling software, web-based applications and social media.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s degree required, Bachelor’s preferred in a related field,
  • Three years experience coordinating, developing and/or marketing educational classes, trainings, events and/or business services, required.
  • Experience coordinating several activities or projects at one time, required.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes some evening and weekend hours, required.
  • Possess a valid Oregon driver’s license, provide own transportation and be willing to travel within UCC service district, with occasional out of district travel.
  • Small business experience preferred.
  • Experience identifying educational and/or business needs, preferred.
  • Experience developing or coordinating financially self-support events, preferred.
  • Experience assisting with recruitment, hiring, and training of instructional staff or volunteers, preferred.

    SALARY: $25,624 per year, Full-Time 2011-12 Classified Salary Schedule, Grade 22, Step 1.

    FRINGE BENEFITS: Family health, dental, vision insurance, employee term life, and disability insurance provided at a minimal employee contribution. Participation in PERS after 6 months, with a 6% employee contribution.
