Full-Time Maintenance Specialist

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under general supervision, performs tasks at varied levels in the areas of buildings, and mechanical maintenance. Using a variety of methods, materials and equipment performs construction and installations as well as any related work as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Maintains and makes repairs to buildings and physical plant equipment.
Fabricates, installs, renovates and repairs structures and grounds using a variety of materials, methods and equipment.
Safely uses a wide range of special equipment including, but not limited to, items such as tractors, vans, heavy trucks, lifting equipment, scaffolds, manlifts, respirators, welding and metal cutting machinery.
Occasional Housekeeping duties such as cleaning a variety of items.
Occasional Event setups and teardowns.
Provides general labor, fulfills other related duties as assumed or assigned by their supervisor.
Assists in construction projects.
Ordering parts and supplies.
Answering phones and responding to campus maintenance needs.
Be willing to broaden skill set through college funded training.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIORNMENT:
Color identification, hearing alarms, hearing voice conversation
Crouching, gripping hands & fingers, bending, kneeling, lifting/carrying regularly 0-24 pounds, periodically 25-60 pounds and seldom more than 60 lbs, reaching, sitting, standing, stooping, twisting body, walking, climbing ladders, pulling, pushing, running, crawling, hammering, shoveling/digging, standing long periods
Exposure to: sun, dampness, noisy work area, wearing rubber or plastic gloves, wearing safety glasses, work in water, working shifts, working w/rotating machinery occurs regularly but not daily, walking rough terrain, bee stings, fumes, intense light, noxious odor, outside temperature extremes, poison oak, wearing ear plugs/muffs, wearing hard hats, wearing rubber boots, work at heights, confined spaces, crowded areas, remote areas, high ladders, solvents, grease, oils, inks, chemicals, dust or pollen, epoxy chemicals, smoke occurs in this job daily.
Operating heavy trucks, operating passenger vehicles
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to work without supervision.
Ability to get along with people; friendly and cheerful.
Knowledge of: Tools, materials, methods and terminology used in building, and physical plant maintenance. Methods and practices for commercial buildings type maintenance.
Ability to: Estimate the scope of each work assignment and secure necessary tools and materials to complete the assignment. Performs a wide variety of maintenance and repair activities. Must be able to perform manual labor. Understand and carry out oral and/or written instructions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
One to three years of related work experience.
Valid Oregon driver’s license.
High School diploma required, or equivalent required, twelfth grade reading skills required.
Must possess good oral and written communication skills.
SALARY: $24,998/year, Full-Time 2011-12 Classified Salary Schedule, Level 21, Step 1.
