LIBRARY ASSISTANT

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Responsible for providing service at the circulation desk; troubleshooting equipment; providing basic help in using library services and equipment.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Provides excellent customer service to all library users.
Learns new library and computer skills quickly.
Works easily with a variety of web browsers, learning management systems, and software used for instruction at the college.
Registers library borrowers; circulates materials according to established policies.
Communicates well with co-workers and library users.
Provides general assistance to library users as needed.
Performs clerical and processing duties as required.
Work Environment:
Sit, stand, stoop, walk, crouch; hear alarms and voice conversations; extensive use of mouse and keyboard; read computer monitors and fine print; perform in crowded areas with people at various skill levels.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Excellent organizational skills.
Ability to learn the basics of instructional software quickly.
Familiarity with FERPA.
Outstanding public service skills.
Understanding of library services, including circulation, lab policies, and basic reference.
Ability to communicate well, both verbally and in writing, with co-workers and the public.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: AS or AA or substantial computer and/or library experience.
SALARY: $9.77 per hour, 19 hours per week maximum. 2010-11 Part-Time Classified Salary Schedule, Grade 13, Step 1.
