Part-Time Marketing Assistant

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This fast-paced part time position is responsible for assisting in all phases of Community Education marketing strategy, from development to execution. Assists the Community Education staff in the development of both the annual and term-by-term marketing plans. The ideal candidate utilizes market segmentation techniques to reach Community Education target audiences through print, promotions, and social and electronic media. Continually improves department marketing by suggesting and implementing new and creative strategies.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Works with the Director and community education staff to develop department marketing plans.
Writes, designs, edits and prepares materials for print or electronic distribution.
Creates department marketing schedules and calendars.
Manages the department’s internet and electronic presence including web, social media, YouTube and emerging applications.
Works cooperatively as the community education representative with other College departments on campus wide marketing projects as needed.
Coordinates distribution of various promotional items with outside vendors, such as printers and mail houses to meet deadlines.
Assists in marketing research and identifying new marketing techniques for adoption.
Assists with identifying and tracking costs for department marketing including estimates, online advertising, other marketing fees and expenses.
Provides layout/exhibit design recommendations and assistance with set-up and logistics for community education promotional events, community fairs or business events.
Tracks the effectiveness of promotional efforts.
Manages promotional lists including those used for mail, email and texting etc.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Excellent organizational and planning skills required.
Ability to work on multiple projects at one time.
Excellent written communication and demonstrated knowledge of design principles. Ability to utilize Adobe and Microsoft software to design ads, flyers and electronic media.
Ability to learn new software programs, social media and promotional methods as they emerge.
Ability to work individually on self-driven projects.
Ability to work as a team member with Community Education staff members.
Understanding of market segmentation and niche marketing.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Associate Degree or equivalent in Communication Studies, Journalism, Graphic Design, English or related field required.
Minimum one year experience in marketing or promotion required.
Thorough knowledge of Microsoft and Adobe software products.
Strong social media skills including demonstrated knowledge of Twitter, Facebook, electronic correspondence and content management programs for websites required.
Knowledge of online advertising methods such as pay per click and search engine optimization preferred.
Ability to work flexible schedule that includes some evening and weekend hours, required.
Possess a valid Oregon driver’s license, provide own transportation and be willing to travel within UCC service district, required.
SALARY: $12.20 per/hr DOQ, Part-Time Classified Salary Schedule, Grade 22
