Scholarship Coordinator

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Responsible for supporting the UCC Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) not for profit entity. Under direction of the Foundation Director, coordinate all scholarship activities for Umpqua Community College. This is a flexible 40 hr/wk position.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Coordinate all scholarship services at Umpqua Community College.
Organize and coordinate scholarship committees and disbursement of awards.
Gather and submit completed scholarship applications to appropriate scholarship committees.
Advise students on scholarship search and application procedures at UCC.
Verify students meet criteria for scholarships by securing information from the Financial Aid Office on eligibility issues and determining that students have qualifying GPAs, program focus, and that they meet other criteria established by donors.
Schedule and give presentations at area high schools on scholarship opportunities and procedures at Umpqua Community College.
Organize and present scholarship awareness events at UCC
Communicate with academic departments and community on availability and criteria for scholarships.
Instruct scholarship committees on scholarship procedures and criteria.
Create, send, and respond to correspondence relating to scholarships including scholarship awards, notifications of discontinuance, and notifications of denial.
Create brochures and other promotional materials about available scholarships for dissemination within the college and community.
Collect and compile information, analyze and reconcile results, and prepare records and reports relating to scholarship expenditures.
Send letters to donors notifying them of scholarship awards in a timely manner.
Produce annual scholarship report for Umpqua Community College
Maintain and update college scholarship web page as needed.
Promote availability of scholarships through advertisements and articles in appropriate publications.
Coordinate the planning and organizing of recognition events for scholarship recipients.
Train and direct the work of student assistants or short-term, non-continuing employees.
Answer phone calls, e-mails and web page inquiries relating to scholarship at UCC.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to work with a minimum of supervision
Ability to handle routine projects involving duplicating and collating materials
Ability to organize, prioritize and meeting deadlines.
Ability to plan and present informational programs and give presentations to individuals, small and large groups.
Ability to produce public informational materials.
Ability to demonstrate sensitivity to, and respect for, a diverse population.
Willingness to travel throughout Douglas County to promote scholarships.
Willingness to attend conferences and training sessions as needed.
Competent in most current version of Microsoft Word and Excel.
Ability respect and maintain the confidentiality of the financial data of donors and students.
Effective human relations and interpersonal communication skills/ability to interact well with others.
Excellent command of English language (spelling, grammar, vocabulary, writing ability, proofreading skills).
Ability and willingness to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology.
QUALIFICATIONS:
BA/BS degree preferred.
A minimum of three years experience in financial aid, marketing, public relations, public information, communication, higher education or public education preferred.
Excellent communication skills.
SALARY: $24,147 per year DOQ, Full-Time Classified Salary Schedule, Grade 20, Step 1.
FRINGE BENEFITS: Family health, dental, vision insurance, employee term life, and disability insurance provided at a minimal employee contribution. Participation in PERS after 6 months, with a 6% employee contribution.
