Stephanie Newman grew up in Southern California, where she trained at numerous theatres and conservatories. After attaining her BA from the University of California, Irvine, with honors in acting, Professor Newman lived in New York City while making her first film. She returned to UC Irvine to attain her Master's in Fine Arts- the first undergraduate to be asked to return for the graduate acting program. During her graduate studies, she began her pedagogical career training adults at UC Irvine and children at youth conservatories. She was the recipient of the Medici Grant, Transversal Theatre Grant, and additional Fellowship monies for being a recruiter, all of which led to travel and performances abroad at major international festivals. After graduate school, Stephanie was a regional theatre and film actress based out of LA. Now a director, producer, and advocate for the arts, Professor Newman is directing the theatre program at Umpqua Community College, serving as Executive Director of the Oregon Musical Theatre Festival, organizing the Oregon One-Acts for high schools plays, and co-hosting the local radio show on arts and entertainment, Umpqua Valley Live. When not submerged in the performing arts, she explores Oregon and beyond with her husband Travis. As a firm believer in the performing arts having a place in education (and vice versa), she welcomes you to get involved with the various programs offered and looks forward to seeing you at the theatre!
