Umpqua Community College won second place in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges’ Presidents Cup, an honor that recognizes the academic achievement of college athletes.
UCC athletes had an average GPA of 3.50, the second highest among colleges with less than seven sports. Bonus competition points were awarded for athletes who reached credit milestones, and earned degrees or certificates.
This is the first year the NWAACC has awarded Presidents Cup awards. The winner in the small colleges division (seven sports or less) was Big Bend Community College. The winner in the larger colleges division (more than seven sports) was Walla Walla Community College.
“Academic achievement is a high priority for UCC coaches and athletes,” said Athletic Director Cheryl Yoder. “To be recognized for this commitment by the NWAACC is a huge honor for us. We’re very proud of this accomplishment, and of our hard-working student-athletes.”
