A One Year Certificate Program at Umpqua Community College
The manufacturing and service industries use welding as a means to build and repair products. The welding program courses focus on the skills needed in the following areas: Oxygen Fuel Gas Cutting; Electric Arc Welding; MIG Welding; and TIG Welding. Students will learn to weld in all four positions (flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead) using the latest technology and equipment.
Upon successful completion of the basic certificate, the student will have the skills necessary for entry level job positions. Courses are available to extend the skills learned to include advanced welding techniques required in the manufacture and repair of products made from materials requiring special fabricating procedures. Acquiring these skills will enable one to pursue welding jobs which require advanced knowledge / skills with higher pay.
Employment Outlook
According to the Oregon Department of Labor, the projected growth rate in this industry state wide is expected to
exceed 11% over the next year. Those who complete the program can expect to earn $10 - $20 per hour with excellent employee benefits.
