Umpqua Community College offers a Certificate of Completion
for the Police Reserve Academy. The Academy is conducted
in conjunction with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department,
Roseburg, Winston, Sutherlin, Oakland and Myrtle Creek Police
Departments. This Academy trains Reserve Officers and
Deputies for law enforcement agencies throughout Southwest
Oregon. Many full-time officers and deputies are hired from
the Reserve ranks.
This rigorous course of study starts in mid- September and concludes in May of the following year. Classes are taught on Saturdays 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. This is a 320- hour program designed to train police reserve officers to enter a career in law enforcement.
Completion could lead to employment as:
Students employed in Reserve Officer or Reserve Deputy positions or hired into full-time positions in law enforcement may earn Cooperative Work Experience credits towards an Associate of Arts in Applied Science in Criminal Justice.
