Do You Love the Outdoors?

Picture of Outdoor Recreation Students rafting on the river. Umpqua Community College is located in Roseburg, Oregon, a city known for its natural beauty and its proximity to diverse recreational opportunity. To the east are Diamond Lake and Crater Lake and to the north is Willamette Pass Ski Area. The Umpqua River runs right through the middle of town and provides excellent kayaking and rafting just minutes from campus. Just a short drive away, hiking, biking, and rock climbing opportunities abound on the North Umpqua.

The Physical Education Department takes advantage of these and other astonishing recreational opportunities to provide a wide variety of first rate recreation and outdoor activity classes. Students can supplement their regular course work with these great adventure-based classes. Associate of Arts (AA) and Associate of Science (AS) degrees are available, both designed to prepare students for transfer to a four-year institution in pursuit of baccalaureate degree in Outdoor Recreation.

Career Opportunities

Careers in the field of outdoor recreation range from working in the area of tourism and leisure services (elder hostels, outdoor recreation businesses, hotels, restaurants and resorts) to municipal recreation (city and school based recreation programs), or from therapeutic recreation for special populations to outdoor and adventure programs and guiding.
