A Certificate Program at Umpqua Community College


Picture of medical records on file. The UCC one-year Medical Coding and Billing Certificate prepares students for entry-level positions as outpatient medical coding specialists. Students take courses that provide them with the basic competencies to begin a career as a medical coding specialist. The curriculum is designed to prepare the future medical coding specialist with both a theoretical understanding of the profession and the practical skills necessary to succeed.

Employment Outlook
According to the Oregon Department of Labor, the projected growth rate in this industry state wide is expected to exceed 23% over the next 10 years. Students who complete this certificate can expect to earn $9.92 - $16.11 per hour.
