Medical assistants work primarily in ambulatory care settings, such as medical offices and clinics. Duties of medical assistants vary but generally include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for x-ray or other diagnostic exams, collecting and preparing lab specimens, and assisting the physician during the examination.
