FE 105T: Logging Career Training
This three-week certificate of completion program will train students in the basic skills and knowledge to start a professional career in the logging industry. A graduate of this program can expect to be trained in skills necessary to excel in an entry-level position in the logging industry. Students will receive training in logging methods, machinery and terminology, woods safety, first aid, basic power saw care and operation, fire protection and suppression, and logging crew procedures. Training will include fieldwork. Students will be assigned to job shadowing experiences for 3 days.
Career Path
This training is designed for new employees with little previous experience in logging. A graduate of this program can expect to be trained in skills necessary for an entry-level position in the logging industry (such as choker setter, chaser, knot bumper, or related work in reforestation or wild land fire fighting).
Employment outlook
Excellent. Surveys of the Douglas County employers show the immediate and consistent need for 50 or more entry-level jobs in the logging profession.
Jobs typically start at $25,000 to $30,000 annually with good benefits. There is an excellent opportunity for rapid advancement. Skilled workers engaged in timber harvesting may earn $45,000 or more annually.

Class will meet Monday through Thursday for 10 hours per day. Students will be assigned to job shadowing experiences for 3 days.
