The Communications field is growing in Oregon! The U.S. Department of Labor is projecting job growth in the next six years of 18 percent for public relations specialists, 19 percent for editors, 18 percent for media and communication workers, and 15 percent for news analysts, reporters and correspondents (that’s nearly three times the national average).
UCC offers award winning degree preparation programs with exciting hands-on media training for students interested in journalism or other communication career options. Our classes are not just for reporters, however! UCC courses such as Writing for the Media, Information Gathering, Mass Communication, Public Relations, and Business Communication prepare students to become the vital communicators and advocates needed today in service-providing industries such as advertising, health care, social assistance, education, and government. In fact, the National Association of Colleges and Employers recently listed “communications skills (verbal and written)” as the number one skill sought by the nearly 2,000 employers that they surveyed.
Students interested in this high growth employment opportunity can transfer from UCC to many different Oregon colleges to complete their studies in a variety of majors including the following:
Plus, the field of Communications is FUN! By working closely together on media projects, our students develop lifelong friendships and build networks that serve them for years.
Students involved in campus media have the opportunities to learn valuable job skills in the areas of information management, supervision, advertising, professional software, scheduling, and creative production.
