UCC to Offer Red Cross Lifeguarding Class and Water Safety Instruction Class

Roseburg— Umpqua Community College is offering a Red Cross Certified Lifeguarding Class, starting April 24 and a Water Safety Instructor Class starting April 25. The lifeguarding class provides training for persons with the skills and knowledge necessary to keep patrons of pool facilities safe in and around the water. The Water Safety Instructor class provides training for those who wish to teach people to swim and to help them be safe when they are in, on or around the water. Both courses meet all the requirements for Red Cross Lifeguard certification and Water Safety Instructor certification.
The lifeguarding course is open to anyone at least 15 years of age, with at least an intermediate level swimming ability. The Water Safety Instructor class is open to anyone at least 16 years of age or older, with intermediate to advanced swimming ability. Those passing the courses will be eligible to apply for jobs at local pool facilities, including the UCC pool.
