Roseburg— Umpqua Community College Riverhawk’s invite Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of all ages, their troops, and their families to attend the game against Mount Hood Community College on Saturday, January 12. The women start play at 4 p.m., men at 6 p.m.

Each scout wearing a uniform will be admitted free, receive a drink, popcorn, souvenir, and meet members of the Riverhawk teams.

Both UCC Riverhawks basketball teams won their league opener Saturday, January 5, against teams from Portland Community College.

“I want to get us in a position where we can compete for the Championship,” women’s Coach Dave Stricklin says on his website. Last year the men’s time competed in post-season play.

Beyond that, both coaches want team members to grow as basketball players.

“We have been fortunate to recruit young men who have been able to play the style of basketball that we are preaching here,” said men’s Coach Donell Morgan, who, himself, is a former UCC basketball player.

“I want to help out player be better college players than they were in high school,” said Coach Stricklin. “I want to help find scholarships for our players who want to move on to four-year universities. (Close to 100 so far.)”
