Award for UCC nursing studies given to Idleyld Park woman

Roseburg— Umpqua Community College Foundation is pleased to announce that Shawna Fast, of Idleyld Park, has been awarded the first-ever Claire Weaver Memorial Nursing Scholarship for 2007, UCC Foundation Director Dennis O’Neill, reported today.

The scholarship is for $500. Shawna is a student in the nursing program at UCC. The Claire Weaver Memorial Scholarship has been endowed by Claire’s husband, Craig, and supported by contributions from her many friends, O’Neill said. Claire died from cancer in August 2006 following a lengthy illness.

Claire worked at Mercy Hospital for 15 years where she was awarded the “Mercy 2006 Hero Award.”
