Roseburg— Umpqua Community College Community Education Department invites you to celebrate Saturday, November 17, as National Community Education Day.
Umpqua Community College’s Community Education program offers a variety of lifelong learning programs that increase opportunities in workforce training, economic development, job preparation, personal enrichment and cultural well being for our students and the community. National Community Education Day reminds us that schools and colleges are institutions strongly woven into the fabric of our cities and towns and that they should command the sustained interest of the citizenry.
National Community Education Day was authorized by Congress and President Ronald Reagan signed it into law designating November 17, 1987, as the first National Community Education Day. On that date, President Reagan proclaimed, "I invite parents, educators, student, state and local officials, and all Americans to take part in activities that recognize and show appreciation for the role of community resources in education."
