Online Databases

EBSCOHost Databases
Off-campus access to these EBSCOHost databases is available to users with a UCC Library card. Please ask at the circulation desk in the library for a complete list of database usernames and passwords.

Academic Search Premier
Multi-disciplinary database of full text articles and abstracts including magazines and peer-reviewed journals which cover the many subject disciplines related to the study of criminal justice and forensic science.

Legal Collection
This database contains full text for nearly 250 of the world's most respected, scholarly law journals. The Legal Collection is an authoritative source for information on current issues, studies, thoughts and trends of the legal world.

Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection
This database provides nearly 575 full text publications, including nearly 550 peer-reviewed titles. Psychology & Behavioral Sciences Collection covers topics such as emotional and behavioral characteristics, psychiatry & psychology, mental processes, anthropology, and observational and experimental methods.

Other Online Databases

LexisNexis Academic
LexisNexis Academic provides access to full text news articles from major papers and magazines, transcripts, and newswire reports, as well as corporate profiles, case records from state and national courts, and industry publications. LexisNexis is not available off campus.

CQ Researcher
CQ from Congressional Quarterly provides a "complete source on the most current and controversial issues of the day with complete summaries, all the pros and cons, bibliographies and more." CQ Researcher is not available off campus.

Access Science
An encyclopedic database covering science and technology that includes a section on forensic science. Access Science contains encyclopedic articles and research updates as well as study guides, essay topics, biographies and related websites for multiple science disciplines.

Science Resource Center
Locate thousands of topic overviews, experiments, biographies, pictures and the latest scientific developments in articles from over 200 magazines and academic journals, with links to quality web sites. Topics include forensic science and DNA.

Encyclopedia of Criminology and Deviant Behavior
Around 500 entries which represent the range of major topics and research in the field of criminal deviance. The four volumes, each including a list of articles organized alphabetically and by subject, address different subject areas:

Facts on File Dictionary of Forensic Science
Over 1,800 definitions of terms and concepts related to the study and practice of forensic science, including cross-references and illustrations. REF 363.25 B

Encyclopedia of Forensic Science
"[The] Encyclopedia of Forensic Science gathers the core topics of forensic science in one comprehensive volume, and provides an overview of each." Entries incorporate references and illustrations, and are intended for use as starting points for class assignments or career research. REF 363.25 B

Famous American Crimes and Trials
This five-volume set, organized by historical era, covers " 'trials that have provided the impetus and the forum for major public debates' ". Each entry includes background, analysis, and references. REF 364 F

Encyclopedia of Murder and Violent Crime
Within this volume, entries address topics such as homicide, euthanasia, criminal murder, and more. REF 364.15 E

The A-Z Encyclopedia of Serial Killers
Alphabetical entries link serial killers and crimes to their sometimes graphic affiliates. Includes entries like "board games," "bluebeards," and "groupies." REF 364.1523 S

Crime in the United States 2004
A collection of national crime and criminal justice statistics put out by the U.S. Department of Justice and the FBI. REF 364.1 U

Laws & Court Decisions Online

U.S. Government Information

FirstGov
The "U.S. Government's Official Web Portal," FirstGov has important links to information on both the Judicial and Legislative branches of the federal government. Find out about the courts system in the United States from the U.S. Supreme to the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veteran's Claims, browse current bills and laws in Congress, and much, much more.

THOMAS
A legislative portal from the Library of Congress, THOMAS offers information on U.S. bills, codes, and laws. This site also includes an extensive description of how laws are produced in Congress, titled "From a Bill to a Law."

U.S. Supreme Court

Supreme Court Collection
Decisions and published opinions of the U.S. Supreme Court for cases from 1990 to the present, easily browsable by parties or date, are available at this website created by Cornell Law School. Access to the decisions in 600 important older Supreme Court cases is also available at the site through Cornell's affiliate "LII Collection of Historic Decisions."

OYEZ: U.S. Supreme Court Multimedia
The OYEZ Project offers over 2000 hours of U.S. Supreme Court audio files, as well as a virtual tour of the Supreme Court and profiles of justices, past and present, made possible through a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and Northwestern University.

FindLaw: Oregon Laws & Court Cases
Collection of links and resources from FindLaw for Oregon legal documents, including opinions from both the U.S. Court of Appeals (9th Circuit) and Oregon Supreme Court, as well as municipal codes from several major cities in the state.

University of Oregon Law Library Research Guides
Help searching for Oregon law information, such as legislative histories, and general advice on searching law on the world wide web are two of nine pieces of advice available from UO law librarians on this site.

National Criminal Justice Reference Service
"NCJRS is a federally funded resource offering justice and substance abuse information to support research, policy, and program development worldwide." Federal sponsors of this site include the U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and the Executive Office of the President.

Bureau of Justice Statistics
From the U.S. Department of Justice, this is a one-stop site for statistics on crime, criminal justice, corrections, and special topics such as the amount of drug use among criminal offenders.

Criminal Justice MegaLinks
A resource for criminal justice students which includes everything from the latest news in the field to a detailed, step-by-step introduction to obtaining a job in criminal justice. Site created and maintained by Thomas R. O'Connor, from the Department of Justice Studies & Applied Criminology, North Carolina Wesleyan College.

California Occupation Guide: Criminalists (Forensic Science Technicians)
This occupational fact sheet details necessary skills, average wages, and suggested educational paths for those interested in a career as a Criminologist. Although produced by California's Employment Development Department, links to national organizations in the field are included.

Juvenile Corrections Websites

Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention
The OJJDP, part of the U.S. Dept. of Justice, supports the development of effective programs for juveniles by supporting state, local, and tribal programs and services. This site includes information on the U.S. juvenile court system and the National Sex Offenders Registry.

State Juvenile Justice Profiles
The United States does not have one unified juvenile justice system, but instead each state runs its own programs. "Developed in collaboration with state and local juvenile justice practitioners, the State Profiles offer an evolving array of information about each state's laws, policies, and practices, with links to individuals and agencies in the field." Oregon Youth Authority
The web presence for the Oregon Youth Authority includes links to policies, employment opportunities, and information for those working with youth in Oregon.
