The UCC Foundation was established in 1970 for charitable
and educational purposes by improving the financial support of the College through
gifts, grants and bequests. Its primary purpose is to provide opportunities
for individuals, corporations, foundations and other groups to support the educational
programs of the College.
Support Umpqua Community College
What does a UCC student have in common with Walt Disney? They both
started fullfilling their dreams through education at a community college. In
Douglas County, about 29% of the high school graduates attend UCC. From 2000 - 2004,
UCC averaged 15,181 registrants per year. UCC serves the community by offering
programs which can transfer to a four-year college, certify people in professional-technical
fields, retrain employees, provide adult basic education, assist local businesses
or offer individuals self improvement classes ranging from art and computers
to sign language and welding.
UCC graduates will earn $6,500 more per year than peers with only a high school
education or no degree. Plus, UCC tuition is half of the cost of a state university.
UCC's academic atmosphere, professional societies & clubs and recreational
programs offer students a well-rounded college experience. Our caring faculty
leads to future student sucess. By planning for the future, we provide programs
that result in jobs for today and tomorrow. UCC has strived to provide
students training on modern equipment, make education affordable and
fullfill dreams--
YOU CAN HELP!
Ways to Give a Gift
There are several ways to give to the Umpqua Community College Foundation.
They include:
Turn Dreams into Reality
Unrestricted Gifts
This type of gift can be allocated by UCC to wherever the college needs it
most. Unrestricted gifts have been used for scholarships, matching grants,
and equipment purchases ranging from athletic supplies, to a campus marquee
sign, technical equipment, and support for the Umpqua Singers to travel with
the Capitol Tree to Washington, DC.
Student Scholarships
The demand for student financial aid is always high. Foundation
grants and short-term loans provide the gift of knowledge to an increasing number
of students each year. The Foundation normally provides over $200,000 annually
in scholarships. The College does a very good job of selecting students for
scholarships in line with the scholarship's criteria. Whenever possible, the
College mixes work study, loan and grant monies in its student assistance packages.
To receive a list of scholarships available or applications for scholarships,
visit the scholarship webpage or contact the UCC Financial Aid office at 440-4602.
Named Scholarships and Memorials
Individuals, businesses and corporations may create scholarships named in
honor of the contributor or in the memory of individuals. These perpetual
scholarships may specify a minimum grade point average, financial need,
area of study or other criteria. The principal of these scholarships is kept
intact and only the earnings are used for the scholarship. These scholarships
can be established with a gift of $10,000 or more. The College monitors and
reports the progress and performance of the award recipient to the donor.
Capital Funds
Contributions to the Foundation may provide monies to assist with construction
or unique capital improvements. As a campus, we have many needs that have a one
time cost. Some gifts, with College board approval, could result in the naming
of a structure. Examples include the Harold Woolley Adult Basic Education Center
and the Ford Family Center.
Staff Development
Quality faculty and staff are an integral part of the success of UCC and
its students. To honor staff who best exemplify UCC's goals, once-a-year
outstanding faculty and employee awards have been established by the
Foundation.
