Dental Hygiene Instructor - TWO YEAR TEMP -

Responsible to:  Director of Health Occupations, Dean of Careers & Technical Education, and Vice President of Instruction.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Essential Functions:

  • Support the development of a dental hygiene distance learning site at Umpqua Community College (UCC) through:
  • Support for distance learning students in course seminar sessions, clinical facility development and patient population development.
  • Use competency-based learning principles that focus on student outcomes reflected in assignments, course objectives, evaluation criteria, instructional strategies, and stages of psychomotor skill development; employ assessments measures that help students to demonstrate proficiency; participate in calibration sessions with Lane program faculty to assure planned instructional objectives are being met.
  • Apply the concepts of competency based education to dental hygiene education within the UCC/LCC clinical facility to support the Lane distance education program in meeting program goals and skill development strategies.
  • Operate/maintain clinical and laboratory equipment; assure equipment and supplies are available to students for instruction; maintain inventory and supply management; prepare and present computer generated instructional materials for laboratory, seminar and clinical sessions; use classroom presentation equipment.
  • Work individually, to support distance education site program daily activities as well as collaborate with Lane Community College campus faculty and UCC Dental Assisting program faculty, to develop and continually implement course outlines, assessments, assignments, clinical care strategies, teaching methodologies and co-facility user issues.
  • Collaborate with distance clinical site facilities and their personnel to comply with constraints or regulations during implementation of program instruction and clinical patient care.
  • Participate in shared governance and decision making; collaborate with peers at Umpqua Community College and Lane Community College to support the goals of the distance learning dental hygiene site.
  • Establish liaisons within the community with diverse patient sources to meet the needs of a new dental hygiene program distance site patient care program; liaison with Umpqua Community College technological support personnel and facilities to meet the needs of distance education students.
  • Model and ensure diversity and cultural competency (respect, inclusiveness, reflecting, valuing and welcoming of cultural differences) in all position responsibilities regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, gender, social class, sexual orientation, ability, nationality, age, language, origin, or employment status.
  • Establish and follow a professional growth plan to maintain and expand current knowledge of dental hygiene theory and practice and actively participate in College sponsored professional growth activities.
  • Participate in professional associations, continuing education activities and establish good working relationships within the field including a broad spectrum of public and private organizations.
  • Assess and revise course objectives in concert with Lane dental hygiene faculty; support implementation of curriculum consistent with students' educational needs and students' varied learning styles; support application of Accreditation Standards within the curriculum; implement emerging trends; use Lane Community College Guidelines for establishing curriculum equity, Lane's vision, Mission and Core Values.
  • Support the Dental Hygiene Program Curriculum Management Plan through annual course assessment, planning, implementation and revision to meet program strategic plans.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three years of clinical dental hygiene experience: Experience with current debridement technology; N20 and local anesthesia administration; and expanded functions using esthetic, temporary and restorative dental materials. Documentation of formal or informal preparation in teaching and or learning strategies, required.
  • Masters degree; experience within the last three years in Clinical Dental Hygiene practice; On-line teaching experience; bi-lingual and multicultural experience, preferred.
  • Bachelors degree or completion of a Bachelor's degree by September 15, 2008. Licensed for Dental Hygiene or eligible for licensure in Oregon.

    SALARY:$41,958 - $48,828 per year DOE, Full-Time Faculty Salary Schedule, Step 1-6.
