Practical Nursing Instructor/Coordinator

Responsible to:  Director of Health Occupations, Dean of Careers & Technical Education, and Vice President of Instruction.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Essential Functions:

  • Develop and teach assigned nursing content, facilitate learning, and interact with students & staff in lecture, simulation, lab, clinical and small group settings.
  • In cooperation with faculty, utilize competency-based learning principles that focus on student/staff outcomes reflected in assignments, simulations, testing situations, teaching aids and reference materials; help develop innovative and accurate assessment measures that help students to demonstrate proficiency. Evaluate and maintain records of student progress, and provide necessary feedback to students regarding their performance.
  • Operate Nursing laboratory, classroom A/V and computer equipment. Maintain the HPS (human patient simulators) in working condition at all times.
  • Work with students/staff from diverse backgrounds to fulfill a wide variety of academic goals. Work with students with disabilities or with other special learning situations on an as-needed basis. Work one-on-one with students through lab hours and in other settings to help them with course content and questions relating to program options and academic choices.
  • Participate in shared governance, decision making, and collaborate with peers in divisional, campus, or community projects. Actively participate in college, division/program committees and teams as per contractual agreement.
  • Establish and follow professional growth plan to maintain and expand current knowledge of Nursing theory and practice and actively participate in College sponsored professional growth activities, such as in-service. Participate in professional associations and ongoing continuing education activities.
  • Communicate and work in an effective, respectful, and productive way with diverse staff and students, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, social class, sexual orientation, ability, nationality, age, language origin, or employment status.
  • Coordinate the NSRC availability for both students & hospital staff by participating, with the collaboration of faculty, in allocating and prioritizing budget requests, scheduling classes and facilities, reviewing and updating the curriculum and all promotional materials, assist in developing and evaluating policies and procedures and program-specific evaluation and accreditation documents. Assist with reviewing College, State Board and Accreditation requirements and then implementing the agreed upon guidelines.
  • Participate in the UCC Nursing Advisory Committee, and new student program exploration and orientation sessions. Provide and participate in the orientation of new full time and part time program faculty to the simulation lab (NSRC) and simulation in general.
  • Assist personnel to resolve student issues. Appropriately refer students who may have difficulties in academic and personal areas. Collaborate with the division counselor and advisors regarding advising, as needed.
  • Actively participate in program marketing to potential student pools. Help revise and/or develop marketing brochures for the Nursing Program.
  • Establish good relationships with professionals in the nursing field including a broad spectrum of public and private organizations. Participate in local, state, national organizations and state consortiums.
  • Adhere to and assist in the development and evaluation of divisional policies and procedures, and the activities necessary to implement them. Provide input into the development of written policies for the selection of, retention of, evaluation and graduation of clinically competent students.
  • Coordinate student office/clinical placements with a focus on providing an learning experience that is consistent with program goals and objectives.
  • Coordinate between the Nursing program and the staff development departments at Mercy Medical Center such things as sharing the lab and classroom space, running the HPS, facilitating time for tutoring and maintaining the integrity of the NSRC.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters Degree in Nursing, preferred.
  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing or evidence of current enrollment in a baccalaureate program and have had instruction in educational methodology or be currently working toward the objective required.
  • Three years full-time experience in Nursing preferred.
  • Community College teaching experience in Nursing preferred.
  • Simulation experience in healthcare preferred.
  • Previous experience with healthcare accreditation organizations preferred.
  • Bi-lingual and diversity experience encouraged.
  • Current unencumbered Oregon RN license.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Ability to successfully complete a criminal history clearance.

    SALARY:$41,958 - $48,828 per year DOE, Full-Time Faculty Salary Schedule, Step 1-6.
