GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Umpqua Community College is seeking an experienced, energetic and responsive student development professional who has been successful in serving the needs of students and helping to ensure student success for the position of Vice President for Student Development. The position oversees seven direct reports, 45-50 full and part time employees and an annual operating budget of approximately $1.6 million.
The VPSD is the Chief Student Development Officer of the college, reporting directly to the President & serving on the President's Executive Cabinet. Provides vision, leadership, & management oversight for a comprehensive & collaborative Student Development division offered through enrollment management, admissions & records, financial aid, counseling, academic advising, disability services, TRIO programs, student conduct, job placement, student recruitment, student retention, student life & activities, athletics, summer recreation, international & multicultural programs.
The VP is responsible for maintaining a student-centered philosophy, developing & implementing programs, policies & procedures consistent with best practices, & collaborating with cross-campus colleagues to foster, strengthen & sustain student retention & engagement.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Provide visionary leadership for student services and programs that develop and embrace diversity, racial, ethnic and multicultural awareness.
  • Develop and maintain open communications regarding the purpose, operation, effectiveness and improvement of resources, priorities and expectations for Student Development with administrators, faculty, staff and students.
  • Remain current on best practices and national trends in student development and facilitate the development and implementation of new programs as appropriate.
  • Provide leadership and direction to staff on issues concerning student discipline and oversee the administration of the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Represents and advocates for Student Development fiscal and resource allocation.
  • Prepare an annual comprehensive division budget to support the Student Development division's goals and objectives. Oversees and is responsible for all Student Development budgets.
  • Develops and implement plans and procedures for continuous improvement and evaluation of services to students.
  • Lead Student Development efforts associated with accountability, outcomes assessments and accreditation.
  • Provide systematic professional growth opportunities for Student Development faculty and staff through orientation, skills training, evaluation, peer review, and professional support.
  • Develop and maintain liaisons with community and service organizations, business and industry, professional affiliations and participate in national, state and local associations.
  • Identify, pursue, and develop education related service programs supported through grants and special funding.
  • Liaison with Information Technology department to identify and advocate for division and student needs related to computer technology needs including student management system.
  • Provide leadership and direction to staff on issues concerning FERPA, disability laws and other statutes pertaining to areas of responsibility.
  • Lead campus wide effort in addressing matriculation and retention strategic enrollment plan for College, with representation from cross campus academic and student service programs.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree required, Doctorate preferred.
  • Five years progressive leadership and management experience in student development/student affairs required.
  • Community college experience preferred.

    SALARY:
    Range is $69,083 - $102,243 based on experience & education, full-time, 2007-08 Administrative Salary Schedule, Range 5.
