This is your first college-level writing course. It’s all about writing with a purpose, giving you the necessary skills to become a better writer. This class will give you the basic skills you need to succeed as you continue through the required sequence of writing courses.
In WR 115 you will learn and use many different ways (modes) of formal communication. Some of the assignments will ask you to tell a story (narration and description), explain an idea (expository/process analysis), define or compare, and finally, conduct and organize an investigation.
Successful completion of this class also requires group processing or peer editing, revision, and assigned exercises using grammar and mechanics. This is not a course that emphasizes facts, names, dates, or formulas, but rather a process course that demands on-going participation and timely submission of assignments.
