Photo of a computer training class.Community Education classes are non-credit and open to everyone, they are an ideal way for the non-traditional student to learn something new. Class fees are the primary means of support for Community Education because our classes are designed around community requests. The course topics come from YOU what would you like to learn? Maybe a foreign language, painting, acting, computers, or professional development skills? We offer hundreds of classes each term, something for everyone!

Umpqua Community College believes education is a lifelong process. We provide a wide variety of educational, personal enrichment and recreational courses to meet the needs of community members at all stages of growth. Full-term courses, short courses, workshops, and seminars are offered on the UCC campus and in many communities.

Consult the Community Education Schedule prior to each term for a full listing of courses available. The schedules are mailed out to residents via the US Postal Service.

Driver Education
UCC offers a certified High School Driver Education course. The course includes 30 hours of classroom instruction and 12 hours in the car. Students must have their permit before starting the class. The course covers: managing risk, natural laws, car control, sharing the road, driving on assorted types of roads, adverse conditions, emergencies, driver condition, and more. All instructors are certified through ODOT-TSD. Contact 440-7691 for more information.

We also offer driving instruction by the hour for anyone needing behind the wheel training before getting their license, going in for a re-exam, or needing specialized training - for example low vision/bioptic driver training.

Certified Flagger Training
UCC's Community Education Department offers the 6 hour Certified Flagger Training course on a monthly basis. This course meets the requirements of the Oregon Department of Transportation Construction specifications. Please contact (541)440-7691 for the time and location of the next course.

Community Education offers a wide selection of computer classes for beginners and advanced students. Classes begin with basic Windows and go all the way to advanced web page design and programming. Other Community Education Classes
Personal enrichment classes and workshops are offered on a wide variety of topics from physical fitness to dancing, art to cooking, health and wellness to gardening. Professional Skills Classes
Build your personal or professional skills near your home in most communities within Douglas County.

Conference on Aging
Each September Umpqua Community College hosts the Conference on Aging, a full day of speakers and workshops for the senior population, health care professionals and volunteers who work with the elderly. This conference provides continuing education units for Nursing Home Administrators and Adult Foster Care Providers.

Off-Campus Classes
We offer a wide range of classes located off-campus throughout the college district. These include special, personal, professional, hobby and recreational interest classes.
