Board and students support tuition increase
On March 8, UCC’s Board of Directors approved a $4 per credit tuition increase effective summer term. The decision was made after a great deal of discussion, and board member David Briggs commented, "I’ll vote yes with great reluctance, but I hope we will be able to roll back tuition if our financial situation improves." Jason Bruggeman, student body president noted in his report that students supported the tuition increase as well as a $1 per credit Student Life fee to facilitate student activities and program expansion.
UCC’s auditors from Neuner, Davidson, Kytola and Cooley LLC CPA reported that UCC is in full compliance with all requirements. Auditor Jeff Cooley noted, "We have given the college our highest rating; you’ve done a good job."
The Board approved reappointing LaVerne Murphy, Zone 2 representative, to UCC’s Budget Committee and noted with appreciation that he has served in this position since the college was formed over 40 years ago.
College President Blaine Nisson announced that UCC’s swimming pool would be open for spring term. The pool has been unavailable in the spring for two years because of budget constraints, but Nisson said that community support has enabled this opening.
The board accepted a number of curriculum changes and additions including an Oregon Transfer Module, a one year Aviation Flight Technology Certificate for private pilot’s licensing, a one-year Construction Technology Certificate Program and a stand-alone Certified Flagger Training program.
In other actions the board approved:
• the second reading of a one-term tuition waiver for Wolf Creek Job Corps graduates.
• the second reading of a change to staff holidays, adding Martin Luther King Day, and removing one day off from the week between Dec. 25 and Jan. 1
• the second reading of personnel policies involving employment, classifications, hours and work schedules, employee compensation and holidays.
• the 2005-2006 Revised Budget Calendar.
• yearly contract renewal and step increases for full-time administrators and faculty.
• the donation of two three-wheeled scooters for on-campus use from Ann Fauss, Director of Counseling.
Faculty members “give”
Let’s hear it for the staffers who not only support our school by attending basketball games, but put their money where their mouth is by pledging to match money to the number of points our team made.
Kim Gandy pledged $45 to the athletic program; Bill Bachman, $273 to student activities; Kelly Cooper gave $172 to the Faculty Scholarship Fund; and Blaine Nisson donated $172 to UCC Foundation.
Random Acts of Kindness
UCC Alumni Association is again this term sponsoring Random Acts of Kindness, Monday, March 28, at the campus bookstore. Randomly, students are presented with a $25 gift certificate to assist in school expenses. If you would like to make a donation, please send it to Doris in Admin. Thank you for your generosity!
Banner kickoff
Everyone is invited to attend one of two sessions and learn about the implementation and training schedule of UCC’s new management information system. The Banner Implementation Kickoff is scheduled for March 15 in Campus Center, Indian and Timber Rooms, noon and 1:30.
