Robynne rocks
According to Doris Johnson, executive director of college advancement, Robynne Wilgus, her new administrative assistant is not good. "She isn't good–she's absolutely unbelievable. She's exceptionally competent and professional. It's wonderful. She does things for me before I even know I need them."
Robynne describes herself as a very laid-back easy-going person who really enjoys working with people. Equanimity has to be an asset as she is working for two bosses in two departments–she's also administrative assistant for Stephen Huckins, vice president for administrative services.
Robynne, who previously was an office manager for the Sutherlin school district, says she already feels entirely at home at UCC. "Everyone has been so warm and welcoming. It's a pleasure to work with these people."
Robynne noted that her daughter Melissa, currently a junior at Sutherlin High School, plans to attend UCC and added that she plans to take classes herself. "I want to learn more about accounting," she said, "And I haven't told my husband yet, but I'd really like us to take ballroom dancing classes." She said that she would really like to earn an associate's degree. "I went to college at Bob Jones University in South Carolina, but I didn't get a degree. It would be good to have that."
She and her husband Ed, who is a pastor at Sutherlin Family Church, have been married for 22 years. They also have a son, Tim, who is studying for the ministry at Liberty University in Virginia. They share their Sutherlin home with two cats, Annie and Abby.
The family enjoys traveling and camping ("Loon Lake is our favorite spot!"), and Robynne is also a NASCAR fan and enjoys watching the Sacramento Kings basketball team. Her more quiet hobbies include scrapbooking, playing piano, sewing and cross-stitching.
Chalkboard wants your ideas
The Chalkboard Project is a nonprofit nonpartisan effort launched earlier this year by five prominent Oregon foundations
including Portland's Meyer Memorial Trust and Roseburg's Ford Family Foundation. They want to find public consensus on
ways to improve the state's schools and shore up funding. Chalkboard’s name is all over the airwaves this week with an
ad campaign that is edgy, provocative and reflective. They have one simple goal with this ad campaign, to propel ordinary
Oregonians to visit the Chalkboard web site to offer their views on how to make schools better.
Each ad features a solitary Oregon schoolchild wearing a sandwich board with a provocative message about education–"I'd get
a month more school in Texas," or "My parents don't know my teacher's name," or "I used to learn. Now I learn to take tests."
Every ad reflects what they have been hearing from Oregonians throughout the last year. The bottom-line? If we don’t listen
to what makes us uncomfortable, how can we possibly have a meaningful conversation that leads us to constructive action? Which
is why they are asking for your help, to raise the noise level around the ad campaign. Take a second and do one or both of the
following:
1) Check out the website www.chalkboardproject.org to share your opinion, learn more about what we've been up to and what we
plan to do.
2) Share the website with your co-workers, friends, neighbors and family–get the buzz going–we need to hear everyone's voice.
