Board news
On Nov. 9, Umpqua Community College’s board of directors unanimously approved a three-year rolling contract for Blaine Nisson, who is replacing David Beyer as president of the college effective Nov. 15. The board also authorized hiring Victoria DeVore as director of computer services.
The annual enrollment report was presented in which it was noted that there was an 8.8 percent decrease in student enrollment since last year. The number of full-time students increased, however, in all but summer term. Ralph Perrin, dean of student services, noted that UCC’s enrollment percentages represent the state median for community colleges. The percentage of Douglas County high school graduates enrolling at UCC has increased by 4.3 percent, which Perrin credited to the efforts of UCC’s new recruiting officer Lindsay Cameron. He also noted that 950 students made either the President’s or the Dean’s Honor Roll last year.
In other business the board:
    • Heard about the administrator salary survey.
    • Heard about proposed transfers from general fund contingency to the general fund college support services.
    • Accepted the 2004-05 Campus Facilities Plan, which is an extensive evaluation of all facilities with detailed plans for upkeep and maintenance.
    • Approved the Institutional Master Plan as previously presented.
  • Authorized awarding contracts for printing the college catalog, class schedules and viewbook.
  • Accepted a $100 donation from Lithia Roseburg Auto Center; a computer tower and keyboard from Umpqua Training & Employment; and a 1985 GMC pickup for the automotive program from James Clifford Baird.

“Victoria Sawyer, Cindy Adams, Sonia Wright, Lee Salter and Steve Buchko all stayed after the Fall Advisory Committee
