Six Reasons Why Athletes Attend UCC

1. ACADEMICS
Smaller classes and more individualized instruction enable the majority of athletes to complete their entire General Education program before transferring to a four year university. Academic advisement, individual tutoring, and career planning are available to each UCC athlete. With all the constant changes in the NCAA academic requirements, it's crucial to attend a community college that has full time coaches and counselors who are well informed and up to date on the academic program you need to pursue in order to transfer.

2. SCHOLARSHIPS
The reason most athletes will come to Umpqua. The combination of strong academics, excellent coaching, a challenging schedule, and an outstanding nation wide reputation often results in something very important - scholarships. So far Coach Stricklin has seen nearly 90 of his players receive scholarships to continue their careers at major colleges and universities. No other community college coach on the entire West Coast can even come close to making that claim.

3. COACHING
Coach Stricklin is known and respected throughout the country for his basketball knowledge and expertise. His players are well prepared to receive basketball scholarships and continue their education at the university. Coach Stricklin's speciality has been the offensive development of his players and three of his teams have led the nation in scoring. Many seasons Coach Stricklin has had at least 5 players average in double figures and his teams have scored over 100 points nearly 100 times. Coach Stricklin has seen 7 of his players receive various Kodak All American honors.

4. SCHEDULE
Each year Umpqua Community College plays a top notch schedule against the toughest competition in the Western United States. Coach Stricklin strongly feels that in order to be the best you must play the best. Games throughout Oregon,California, Washington, and Nevada not only help prepare the team for postseason play but also gives the athletes an opportunity to travel and receive more exposure.

5. LOCATION
Umpqua's campus looks more like a park than a school and is located just north of Roseburg on a bluff overlooking the North Umpqua River. Roseburg itself is the hub of southern Oregon and is a place where you can climb a mountain, raft a river,or catch a salmon in some of the most picturesque settings in the Pacific Northwest. The cost of living is low and the surrounding communities are very supportive of women's basketball.

6. TRADITION
When an athlete commits to attend UCC she can be assured that she will be associated with a first class basketball program. Year in and year out the women are contenders for the NWAACC Championship. Major universities know that UCC athletes are dedicated, hard working, and have a strong desire to succeed. They also know that they have been prepared in every way both in the gym and in the classroom to receive a scholarship and take their skills to another level.
