President's Letter

elaine chaneyThe Umpqua Community College Foundation was created in February 1970 by the Umpqua Community College Board of Trustees who realized that private monies could do what public funds could not. They saw a need to seek and invest gifts that were designated for scholarships and other needs the College might have as it grew into a larger institution.

In 2010, the Foundation led the first capital campaign in the history of the college when its members and volunteers raised $2,300,000 for the construction of the Danny Lang Teaching, Learning & Event Center which sits atop a hill on a cathedral-like setting as you enter the campus. The state-of-the-art Southern Oregon Wine Institute operates in the Lang Center.

In addition to raising funds for scholarships and capital projects, the Foundation awards grants for faculty and staff excellence, has added to the College’s art collection, started the first foreign exchange program for students, and has purchased state-of-the-art equipment such as human patient simulators for the health professions programs. The Foundation raises funds annually for bus passes for needy students, emergency loans, emergency loans for textbooks, and child care grants.

Investment of charitable or planned gifts with the Umpqua Community College Foundation are investments in the economic development and prosperity of Douglas County. Higher education transforms the potential of generations of families. Umpqua Community College is the primary source of training for the regional workforce. I invite you to join me in supporting our students and OUR UCC!

President
