Chemistry: Transfer

chemistryChemistry is a branch of physical science that deals with the composition and behavior of all matter. Chemistry acts as a bridge between other physical sciences, such as physics, geology, and biology.

Chemistry consists of many sub-fields and includes research into the chemistry of plants, animals, space objects or stars, synthetic materials, genetics, artificial flavorings, medicine, and inorganic materials.

Careers

Physical science programs provide a wide variety of employment opportunities. Traditionally strong areas of employment in the physical sciences include engineering firms, government agencies, research and development, and science education.

There are numerous non-traditional careers in the physical sciences as well, such as consulting, forensics, science journalism, environmental science, informatics, toxicology, patent law, business and sales. Excellent career opportunities are available in many of these areas if you are willing to relocate.

Transfer Guide

Majors in chemistry are offered at University of Oregon, Oregon State University, Portland State University, Southern Oregon University, and Eastern Oregon University. UCC offers programs of study that are approved for transfer to these institutions. If you are planning to transfer, please work closely with UCC faculty and advisors, and with representatives from the receiving college or university. There may be special requirements for specific programs or schools.
