Visual Communications AAS

The Visual Communications program has been suspended for the 2015-16 academic year for program review, and is not accepting new students. Students should contact Susan Rochester, 541-440-4692, for more information.

Design is everywhere we look. From the objects we use in our daily lives to the signs that get us where we're going, design impacts the way we move through life. With an education in design, students learn focus, risk taking, problem solving, critical thinking, time-management, attention to detail and tenacity.

UCC's hybrid curriculum of online and studio-based courses ensures graduates have computer and design software literacy, and a strong personal design point of view. UCC's full range of affordable, high quality, contemporary design classes and dedicated faculty teach students to think of themselves as designers, artists and innovators. The Mac lab provides up-to-date design software. Small classes ensure individual attention. Students use industry-standard software and their own hands to build competitive, professional portfolios.

With the world at our fingertips, design has never been more important than it is today. Students who earn a certificate in Visual Communications from UCC are qualified to work, or start their own businesses, as graphic designers, product designers, illustrators, web designers, digital technicians, junior art directors, market assistants, and multimedia designers. UCC's Visual Communications program takes an expanded approach to design, one in which art is at the heart of visual communication.

Students in Visual Communications will develop skills in graphic design, layout, typography, photography, and digital media, plus essential career skills such as teamwork and creative problem solving. The Visual Communications Program is structured to assist students in developing a broad range of entry-level skills in both print and web-based applications.

Projects will include corporate identity programs, editorial design, illustration, multimedia presentations, print media publications, packaging design, typography, website design and video production.
