• "This is the saddest day in the 50 year history of UCC. Our hearts go out to every student, every employee, and every family touched by this tragedy.

"I want to thank all of our friends and neighbors who have dropped everything to help us. Over the next weeks, we will come together to accept offers of help and care so that we can assist one another."

    -Dr. Rita Cavin

The Umpqua Community College Foundation is accepting donations online and by mail: https://www.umpqua.edu/scholarships-donations

We strongly recommend that donors cast a careful eye when considering other funds, as some are not based at charitable organizations and might apply high administrative fees. Also, unfortunately, at times like these, there are unscrupulous people who will set up false accounts.

Engineering: AS Transfer

engineeringEngineering is the art of applying scientific and mathematical principles to make things that benefit people. Essentially everything used in a given day was designed or developed by engineers.

Umpqua Community College (UCC) offers an engineering transfer program that closely follows the first two years of study at many public and private universities, including Oregon State University, Oregon Institute of Technology, Portland State University, and University of Portland.

Programs offered at OSU include Electrical and Computer Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering Management, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical, Industrial and Manufacturing, and Chemical Engineering, as well as BioMedical, Forest, Geological, Mining, Metallurgical, and Nuclear Engineering. PSU and OIT offer programs in Civil and Environmental, Mechanical, Electrical and Computer Engineering. OIT also offers programs in Geomatics (Surveying) and Renewable Energy.

Transfer Guide

Many of the core classes taken during the first two years of study are the same for all engineering majors. You should work with the UCC engineering faculty advisor and UCC Advising and Career Center to develop a custom term-by-term planner for transfer to the university of your choice. The following are links to suggested UCC advising guides for some of the transfer opportunities.

Certificates & Degrees at UCC

Pre-Engineering and Certificates

If you are not prepared to begin calculus in your first year of the engineering transfer program, you should consider starting with the Certificate of Completion Program as an Engineering and Drafting Technician. This one-year program can serve as a pre-engineering program for students interested in future transfer. A Drafting Pathways Certificate can also be earned by completing 16 hours of drafting courses. The Pathways and Completion Certificates provide stand-alone, job-ready skills and expanded opportunities for summer internships. If you are interested in certificates in the engineering technology program, you should see the Engineering Technology web page.

Why UCC?

why-uccThe freshman and sophomore years at most universities are designated pre-engineering, with the junior and senior years designated professional engineering. Many of the transfer courses during the first two years of study are math, science and elective courses. At UCC, you can take the required core courses in smaller classroom settings and at lower cost than at four-year institutions. The Associate of Science (AS) degree is awarded once all required courses, electives and general education requirements are successfully completed.

Prospective students should visit Advising and Career Services to get started and then see a program advisor (below) to develop a more focused educational plan.
